Kurti in the election race in northern Macedonia, Thaci: Kosovo has no ease of political interference

Albanian Democratic Party Chairman Menduh Thaci, questioned about the participation or support of the Vetevendosje Movement in the upcoming parliamentary elections, said he sees nothing wrong that a party from Kosovo or Albania supports a political party in our country, but not in the event that party is in power.

He said much caution must be done, as in this way the alibi can be given the implications of Serbia and Russia to Macedonian parties, and Kosovo does not have that comfort in view of the circumstances in which it occurs.

Nothing new and not allowed, for an Albanian political party in Kosovo or Albania, to have support for another party. But it's a bad precedan when that party is in power. There should be many pretexts or alibis of Serbia, Russia, in political organisation among Macedonian parties, through this implications that someone is trying to do. The difficulties Kosovo has I don't think give the comfort of such intervention. Therefore, we should not give arguments to others, our opponents to legitimise Russia's” interventions, Thaci said.

The Vetevendosje movement was officially included in the northern Macedonia power race, joining the Albanian opposition in a coalition.

Even Northern Macedonia Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski has commented on the participation of Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti's party in parliamentary elections in the neighbouring state, saying he has never seen anything like it.

“It is not unknown for party sisters to participate in political support of parties in other states. However, so far I have not seen parties from other countries participate in an election process in another country. It should be seen what exactly is meant, because if political parties from the neighbourhood start participating in elections in our country, it may happen that they want to participate in other countries, which I think would present a kind of undesirable dynamic”, Kovacevski told reporters in Skopje.
