Incidents north, Ibishi: Serbia provoking situation to fail elections

When few days left in the extraordinary elections for North Mitrovica mayors Leposaviqi, Zvecan and Zubin Potok, the number of incidents recorded in the north, from burning cars to wounding a Serbian citizen, is being considered intentional by Serbia in order that the Serb community [...]
Security recogniser Nuredin Ibishi says this shows that despite the necessary measures taken by the Kosovo government, there will be no calm elections.
Ibishi says Serbia's ultimate goal is to evacuate police forces in the north.
From the Serbian List's abstention for the April 23rd elections to the warnings of Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, Ibishi says that a escalation of the situation could be seen from these, which, according to him, comes at the Serbian president's order.
“S first the abstention of the Serbian List and the warning, following last Friday's meeting, of Vuciqi with the Serbian List and with the person wanted by Kosovo's justice, Radojicic, who continues to be part of the working group and warning of a common platform, as if he warned Vuciqi of political, economic, even security in the event of holding elections indicates an escalation of the situation that is coming with correction every time, with orders from Vuciqi and Serbia's leadership in the face of self-ex> extremists, Ibi said.
As for holding elections, Ibishi estimates there must be a political solution, even a postponement of the deadline in order not to reach a new strain of the situation.
There will be no quiet choice in terms of straining the situation. For this reason, the Government of Kosovo has taken all necessary measures, making preparation for deployments and security at all points, whether in countries where all citizens should conduct the April 23rd vote, just as they foresee the rules and, in any case, respect a turnout despite the abstention of the Serbian List. However, the situation I think will be tense and have to have a political solution in order not to come to a new tension, where the elections or major decisions are expected, after Lajcak visited Belgrade and Pristina as well and talked to the leadership, I think big elections are on the threshold compared to what can eventually become a political election, eventually postponement, until there is a agreement of parties in the sense of maintaining”, Ibis said.
As for the incidents taking place in the north, Ibishi says the Serbian side's goal is to become hegemonism of the Serbian community's move that they refuse to go to the polls.
The ultimate goal is to become hegemonism of the Serbian community's move that they refuse to go to the polls, and the other issue is more important that they impose a favour on themselves. The goal is to remove police forces from the north of Kosovo, establish a special mission there, or continue to remain without the presence of the Kosovo Police, the special units, but also the border units with the aim of creating an anarchy, but it will not happen, as police too have sufficient capacities and will respond even at this stage, but also at the stage when the vote will take place on April 23rd”, Isbi said.
According to him, the international community should not remain silent in the face of such a Serbian politician, while adding that incidents prompted by Vuciqi's policy should also understand the European Union.
The “will probably have a walking conversation, even though it will probably happen at the last moment before the evental elections, a possible delay, because elections will be free democratic, are being artificially tense by the Serb side in this case and this is evident. All of this needs to be understood by the international community, we've already learned, and we're reflecting this -- ”, Ibishi told the end.
We remember that, days ago, the Serbian List, which has led with the four northern municipalities, has indicated it will not participate in the elections, according to them, until the formation of the Serb majority municipalities' association.
In the April 23rd elections, 11 candidates will compete for mayors of four municipalities in the north, where only two of them are from the Serb community.
The extraordinary local elections will be held in the north following the resignation of the mayors of northern Mitrovica municipalities, Leposaviqi, Zvecan and Zubin Potok. The mayors of these municipalities resigned in November 2022 due to the government's decision on illegal Serbian plates,
The elections in the north were initially scheduled for December 18th of 2022, but they were postponed following incidents by Serbian criminal groups against KKZ officials and the inability to organise them.
