German government spokesman Stephen Hebstreet told the news at a conference held today.
“As for the Marders, we're talking about a battalion, about 40 vehicles. These 40 vehicles must be delivered to Ukraine within the first quarter”, He said.
The German official also explained that the training of Ukrainian soldiers for the use of vehicles will last about eight weeks and that it will take place in Germany.
The same package also includes an Patriot air defence system, with the sending of a group scheduled for the first quarter.
In a telephone conversation that Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky had with Olaf Scholz, he thanked the German Chancellor for the specific defence package, while discussing “further co-operation for strengthening the Ukrainian Army”.
