Following the announcement by Russia's Defence Ministry that it has decided to temporarily reduce the enmity” in Kiev and Chernihiv, the United States is currently overseeing several movements -- a major shift in strategy, according to two senior American officials, CNN reports.
Russia has begun withdrawing several troops from Ukraine's capital, including Russia's Battalion for Tactica (BGT). Russian forces are now moving back to some areas north to focus on profiting the terrain in the south and east.
This announcement from Russia came after peace talks between Russia's delegations and Ukraine in Istanbul on Tuesday.
The United States estimates that Russia will cover its withdrawal with bombings and air strikes in the capital, one of the officials said. Officials said Russia could always respond again if they allow the circumstances of war.
In the U.S. view, this is not a short-term adjustment for regroupation, but a long-term movement as Russia is being caught up with the failures of advancement in the north. The official said a consequence the US is concerned about keeping Europe's allies unified for economic pressure and military support, as Washington expects some of the states will pressure Ukraine to accept a peace agreement that brings the end of the war.
Ukraine's intelligence has said that Russian President Vladimir Putin may try to split Ukraine in two -- like South Korea and North.
Ukraine's Chief of Intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, said Russia's operations about Kiev have failed, and now it is impossible for Russia's army to overthrow the Ukrainian government. Putin's war will now be focused on the south and east of the country, he said. / P ERISCOPI/
