The recent rains of rain and hail in our country have caused considerable damage to the agriculture sector. While there are still no official figures for the damage done, farm unionists say another form of compensation is also the provision of agricultural cultures.
University Professor Imer Rusinovac says the Kosovo government should have a sector assigned to agriculture. He has told Kosovo Press that the local executive should share a special fund for Kosovo farmers, who have suffered damage from natural disasters.
“What I would like to post and prefer to suggest to the Government, the relevant dictatorship respectively, I think that Kosovo, in addition to the many shortcomings it has in the specific sectors in agriculture, should share a special fund for elementary disasters as it lacks even the insurance issue of agricultural products”, Rusinovac said.
Russia says subsidies and payments, which have so far been split for agricultural culture, have not yielded results.
The various challenges are different, and the relevant dictatorship should think seriously about this, especially in the simulent measures, maybe you should interrupt them. It's about subsidies, dikes payments that for a certain period of time haven't yielded any results. So there's not a meter indicator that says it's been reduced to an import rate. In some form they're either abuses on party bases, regionals, etc. I think once and for all it should be thought that the funds, dedicated to agriculture, should be monitored, monitored on the ground, and used for these destinations, and not for even basic disasters what we are facing”, he said.
While chairman of the Kosovo Agricultural Union Federation Tahir Tahir Tahiri says that in addition to climate conditions, the impact on agricultural cultures has also had pandemics.
He has said of Kosova Priss, that the Kosovo Business Union has contacted the Ministry of Agriculture, and from that last has been required to compensate farmers who have suffered from pandemic, but so far there have been no concrete steps in this direction.
We, as unions, have contacted the Ministry of Agriculture and asked that farmers who suffered from pandemics be compensated for. We've requested that a commission be formed and released on the ground or formed in every municipality and visited the farmers, or even announced an application call for those who have suffered damage because of the pandemic. There are no concrete steps from neither municipalities nor the Ministry of Agriculture, and this issue has remained at the mercy of those who have to compensate farmers”, he said.
Tahiri stated that another form of compensation for farmers is also the provision of agricultural cultures, while there is also an agreement with banks, but there is no threat of hail damage coverage.
The next resource to compensate farmers is insurance. There's a deal with Government and some banks. I have no information that the farmer has the right to provide agricultural culture. However, I have some data that doesn't provide all the cultures and are not provided by the hail, fire, and floods”, he said.
While President Hashim Thaci in a social networking post has said it is painful to see how the sweat of our farmers is damaged, and that Kosovo should do more for them.
It's very painful to see how much damage the work of our farmers, sweat and hard work has been to our country, yesterday and today, after hail and torrential rains. Farming is by no means easy, especially since the risk of natural disasters is always threatened by the sector. A seasonal damage, our farmers often makes it impossible for businesses to survive or even to work their land in the coming season, so Kosovo has to do more for farmers and agriculture. It has to do more for our valuable people and for this vital sector for our economy”, President Thaci has said.
