A chamber report says that the appointment authority, Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigemark (the head of EULEX mission in Kosovo), reappointed the judge, Ekaterina Trendafilova, for even four years, and that appointment goes into effect from December 15th 2020.
According to the announcement, Mayor Trendafilova expressed gratitude for the “trust given to him to continue serving Kosovo's Specialised Chambers, which have entered a new and important phase with the launch of the” judicial processes.
It declared that it is confident that the processes will be conducted in a protected, independent, impartial, fair and efficient manner, in accordance with the mandate of Kosovo's Specialised Chambers.
The Specialised Chambers and the Specialised Prosecutor's Office have been created after the adoption of the Assembly of Kosovo in 2015 of constitutional amendments and legislation for functioning of this judicial institution.
Specialised Chambers and the Specialised Prosecutor's Office investigate the alleged crimes of members of the Kosovo Liberation Army committed against ethnic minorities and political rivals from January 1998 to December 2000.
In the first week of November 2020, Specialised Chambers have confirmed the charges against former Kosovo Liberation Army leaders (UÇK), Hashim Thaci, Kadri Veselin, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi, for war crimes and crimes against humanity, charging them with “joint criminal enterprise”.
On 24 September, Salih Mustafa, former homekeeper The KLA has been arrested and sent to The Hague. The Acropolis charges him with committing war crimes.
Former KLA members Hysni Gucati and Nasim Haradinaj have been arrested on 25 September by Kosovo Specialised Chambers, where they were later transferred to the detention centre in The Hague.
Gucati and Haradinaj are accused of criminal acts against justice administration, respectively, of fearing witnesses, revenge and violation of the secret procedure”.
All these indictees are in custody at The Hague and have been declared innocent.
