Dutch lawyer imprisoned as part of Russian intervention investigations in US presidential elections

The Dutch lawyer has been imprisoned for 30 days at a price of $20,000 Tuesday after being convicted in his dealings with Russian officials during Trump's presidential campaign, reports “DW” Transmission Periscope.

Alex van der Zwaan, the son-in-law of a Russian tycoon, was pronounced guilty of lying about his contacts with the former Trump campaign chief Rick Gates and a former member of Russia's agency, GRU.

Prosecutors claimed that in 2016, van der Zwan and Gates shared communications with a person they knew as former intelligence officer in Moscow. Prosecutors said the 33-year-old Dutch lawyer repeatedly lied to Mueller's investigators about his contact with Gates and the Russian official, referred to in court documents as “Person A.”

Since calling for his lies, van der Zwaan, who previously worked for the legal firm Skadden Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom, has agreed to co-operate with investigators.

Your Honor, what I did was wrong. I apologize to the court, and I apologize to my wife,” told van der Zwaan to a judge.

Van der Zwan had previously worked with Gates and former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort in 2012, performing works on behalf of the Ukrainian government supported by Moscow under then President Viktor Janukovovic./Periscopi/
