Guardia di Italian Finanza has closed 2017 in an antidrug operation conducted in the waters between Otratos and Brindisi.
Italian authorities have banned a gomone carrying 1.7 tonnes of cannabis, which was originally spotted in the Otrato channel.
The Italian coast guard has been put in pursuit trying to stop him off the coast of the municipality San Foca in the province of Leche.
Italian media suggest that the gomonia was launched by Vlora, while three Albanian scanafists have also been put in handcuffs.
