Iran Targets Military Bases as US Starts Wave of Attack

Tehran said it had hit targets in the region, including Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain, while a sixth day of renewed hostilities strained their preliminary agreement to end the war, it broadcast Telegrafi.

Meanwhile, the American Army said it caused a wave of six-hour attacks in numerous places to"degrad Iran's ability to threaten innocent sailors"in the Hormuz Strait.

Recent exchanges came after US President Donald Trump warned Iran that it needed"to behave better"or face further military action if Iran did not return to negotiations.

On Tuesday, Trump threatened to target Iran's energy infrastructure if Tehran did not return to talks.

Iran's leading negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibauff, told state media that Tehran"had no reason to implement any agreements that did not benefit the country.

He added that Iran's national security depends on preserving what he described as the"Iranian agreement"on the Strait of Hormuz.

In recent attacks, the U.S. targeted command centres, air protection sites and coastal surveillance facilities across Iran - including the portal town of Bandar Abbas and Greater Tunb Island - said the American Central Command (Centcom).

Blasts were heard throughout Iran, and air defences were activated in Tehran, Iranian state media reported.

Shortly after, US allies in the Persian Gulf reported attacks. Kuwait's military said it had seized intimidation attacks, while Bahrain's interior ministry told citizens to stay calm and go to the nearest safe place.

The Iranian Army also said it was targeting American communication systems and fuel storage facilities in Jordan in its latest round of attacks.

As tensions intensify, the Hormuz Strait - a critical waterway off Iran's coast that Tehran effectively blocked in response to US-Israel attacks - remains closed.

On Tuesday, the US said they had resumed a blockade in Iranian ports, which was earlier removed as part of an agreement reached by the two countries last month - known as a memorandum of understanding.

The next day, the U.S. shot and deactivated an unloaded oil tank, with the Curacao flag, for which Centcom said he was trying to sail towards an Iranian port blocked.

In response to the renewal of the US blockade, Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps warned the US that it should be"expected to close other routes of oil and gas exports serving the interests of the United States and its allies".

He gave no details of which roads could be affected.

As the Hormuz Strait dispute continues, there has been a significant increase in oil prices at the global level caused by the practical deadlock of tanker traffic in the main shipping corridor.

Despite continued hostility, Trump welcomed what he saw as an olive branch possible from Tehran in the release of an American detainee that the American president said was"unjustly detained"in December 2024.

The United States of America valued this gesture of goodwill from Iran", Trump wrote on his Turkish Social platform Wednesday.

The woman, Dena Karari, was returning to the US, according to her lawyer, Jared Genser, in an X post. /Periscope/
