Attempted to flee border police, German police arrest Kosovo wanted for serious theft

A 32-year-old Kosovo citizen tried to avoid border control by the German Federal Police in Weil am Rhein on Wednesday afternoon (17 June 2026) by fleeing to prison and finished directly. An arrest warrant was issued for him.
The man mentioned was a passenger in a car registered in France, who was trying to enter Germany through the Palmrain Bridge, broadcast albinfo.ch. He walked out of the vehicle near the checkpoint and walked down an clay.
Federal Police officials followed him and arrested him after a brief chase.
Subsequent control of his personal data revealed the reason for his attempt to escape: A German court had sentenced him last year to a fine of 3,579 euros for serious theft that he did not pay. He also did not serve the alternative prison sentence, after which judicial authorities issued an arrest warrant for him in January 2026.
Since he was unable to pay his unpaid court debts in the country, the officers arrested him and took him to the nearest correctional center, records albinfo.ch. He's now serving his sentence there.
