Residents and activists from Peja, as well as the Gucia Plava, held a peaceful protest in the area of Cakir today, demanding the opening of the border point and the full functioning of the road linking Kosovo and Montenegro.
The protest, held under the “slogan enough in isolation!”, began at around 12: 00 p.m. in the Kuttlov-Kuchy area, where citizens, civil society representatives and activists from both sides of the border participated.
Organisers stressed that the main requirement is the opening of the border point in Chuckorr and the functioning of the road, which, according to them, would significantly facilitate the movement of citizens and the economic development of the region, broadcast Klankosova.tv.
One of the initials, Muhamet Nikqi, said protests and petitions will continue until the requirements are met, adding that the road exists for decades but continues to remain closed for regular circulation.
Prior to holding the protest, residents of surrounding areas had undertaken initiatives for opening and cleaning up the mountain road, aimed at enabling citizens to participate on both sides of the border.
Protesters asked Kosovo and Montenegro institutions to address this issue as a strategic priority and implement existing agreements on opening the border point, stressing that its functioning would positively affect the development of tourism and the local economy.
At the end of the gathering, organisers reiterated that civic engagement will continue until the complete opening of this road and the deployment of a functional border point in Chuckorr.
