Italy's Embassy in Pristina: Italian ID cards on paper will not apply after August 3, 2026

Italy's embassy in Pristina has announced that Italian citizens' IDs on paper (CIC) will cease to be valid from August 3rd 2026, despite the date of the expiration set in the document.
According to the announcement, this change comes into effect of Accuracy (BE) no. 1157/2019, as ID cards on paper no longer meet the safety standards set out by European Union legislation on identity and travel documents.

Please note that, in line with Rule (BE) no. 1157/2019, Italian ID cards on paper (CIC) will cease to be valid on August 3rd 2026, despite the expiration date shown in the document, as they no longer meet the security requirements specified by the European Union's legislation on identity and travel documents.
Italian citizens living in this consular district and possessing an identity card on paper are advised to switch to the Electronic Charter of Identity (CIE). This embassy releases this card even before the paperwork is exhausted with a preliminary meeting.
