At the second annual conference, titled “, there is no peace without women”, Kurti has declared that 24 years after the war, Kosovo has managed to become the most democratic state of the Western Balkans.
Citing NATO intervention 24 years ago, Kurti said this liberation was best experienced by women.
Kosovo has been and continues to be NATO's success story. The Kosovo case witnessed how efficient co-operation among NATO countries could be in protecting and promoting peace. In this successful experience in Kosovo at the end of 20th century NATO would not play such an important and efficient role in uniting allies against Russian aggression in Ukraine. Kosovo is a success story not only in the short but long term. 24 years later, Kosovo has managed to become the most democratic state of the Western Balkans, even a state intended to join this alliance, which has freed a quarter century ago”.
There is no peace without women because peace is exactly after freedom, and women are familiar with freedom from oppression, dominance, etc. On this journey of our people, women and girls play a big role. Currently they make up 14 percent of Kosovo agriculture workers, including 1038 in uniform and 286 civilian staff. While in the Kosovo Security Force, women make up 9.75 percent of employees. Our government is making efforts to increase the participation of women and girls in security institutions”, Kurti said.
Moriko Hori, president of the International Federation of Women for World Peace, mentioned a personal story. As a 12-year-old, Hori mentioned the war in South Korea and its personal experiences.
It is important today to know the importance women have for security in the region. Women were peace agents, were very important in promoting peace on hostile occasions. I am Japanese, but when I was 12 years old, I lived in South Korea and then, it was a war with the Japanese state for the division of two Koreas”.
“As a 12-year-old has been a shocking experience, the regime has implemented some education guides that made them hate the Japanese, and every day they hated me because I was Japanese and the educators wanted me to apologize for the Japanese regime”, she said.
