In a letter to Prime Minister Edi Rama and Tourism Minister Mirela Godbarto, Spanish company CEO says the map was just a mistake and there was no political intention.
“Initially, I want to express our honours and renew enthusiasm for the beginning of a common history of tourism development with your country, which we “Meliá Hotels” we feel committed and hope to grow and generate social and economic values, and help position Albania where it deserves, among the best destinations in the Mediterranean.
On the other hand, I'm writing this letter to apologize that I've accidentally included, in a business presentation, an outdated map of Albania and neighboring countries, which would unfortunately have generated some concerns and some “surveillance” media. We've been informed by your government that it was nothing more than a mistake and that at no time our teams have tried to hurt someone's sensitivity, let alone political position in any way. For us, as my father has always done, our protected founder, tourism is a tool for twinning cities and social and economic creation, prosperity wherever we are.
For this reason, I want to thank you again for your continued support and for this of your Ministry of Tourism and reconfirm our forgiveness for this unintentional mistake, making sure it doesn't happen again.
Take a warm greeting, as I look forward to seeing you personally at the next meeting the opening of the Meliá Durres Hotel, which has already started functioning and fills us with pride for its great potential and quality of product”, says the letter.
