Defence lawyers claim police have arrested the wrong man, with the argument that their client's name does not match him in the warrant.
The 36-year-old is wanted in connection with a double murder committed in 2015 on the Greek island of Aegina, which shocked the quiet community of the island.
Irini Marmarino, who ran a souvenir business in Aegina, was found dead along with her grandson Lambros Protonorios inside her home.
Both victims were tortured before they were killed. The autopsy concluded that the author beat the two victims so severely that he caused fractures throughout the body and then, while they were still breathing, they were set on fire.
The investigation proved that Marmarino had recently withdrawn its life savings, totaling about 800 thousand euros, reports Greek media.

Brakaj's defence lawyers cast suspicion and their client was not really the person for whom the warrant was issued.
The European arrest “referred to different names”, they said.
Defence lawyers also noted that while police officers had received Brakaj's fingerprints, they had not presented those traces to the court as evidence.
Although the defence rejected the identity issue, the court, led by magistrate Noel Bartolo, said the case would continue.
Brakaj has not submitted bail and has been silent throughout the hearing. Next week session
