A comment by French President Emmanuel Macron that the Russians and Ukrainians are brothers has not been well received in Ukraine, as the February 24th country faces Vladimir Putin's military aggression. Macron used the expression to explain why he felt that Russia's actions in Ukraine were not genocide, writes Sky News.
The Ukraine Foreign Affairs Ministry has condemned this, calling comments “misleading”.
spokesman Oleg Nikolenko said: “Ukraine and Russia are historically close for objective reasons, but the myth of two brotherly nations of Russia and Ukraine began to collapse after the invasion of Crime and aggression in Donba in 2014. This myth was eventually destroyed when the first Russian missiles flew to Ukraine's cities in February. ”
“Brothers do not kill children, shoot civilians or destroy the homes of their brothers”, he added.
