US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin made an unprecedented trip to Kiev on Sunday, where they met Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky and other Ukrainian officials.
This has confirmed to the United States that State Secretary Antony Blinken and Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin travelled to Kiev to meet with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday.
At the meeting in Kiev, the US reiterated its support for Ukraine and pledged more than $700m for military financing to help their war efforts, officials say, the BBC reports.
About half of the money will go to Ukraine, while the rest will be divided between NATO members and other regional allies.
In addition, the US will sell Kiev ammunition worth $1165m.
The announcement was made after a trip covered in secrecy due to security concerns.
In addition to President Zelensky, Blinken and Austin also met with Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, Defence Minister Olexey Reznikov and Interior Minister Denies Montastyrsky, CNN reported, citing a senior State Department official.
This was the highest-ranking visit of American diplomats to Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian occupation.
