One year of governance, economists: No serious investor brought government Kurti 2

For a year of governing Kurti 2, not even a serious investor with foreign capital has been registered in Kosovo. Despite the ruling party's promises, there has been no progress in opening new jobs, nor in reducing the poverty scale. That is how one year of prime minister's work has been praised. [...]

So they estimate the one-year job of Prime Minister Albin Kurti, university economics professors, even that they consider that this government in this period has not had any corrupt relatives.

In addition to the impasses, it is estimated that the current government has not noted progress in the education sector as well, for increasing quality and opening professional schools.

University professor Albulen Kastrati, citing the three crises this government faced, pandemic, energy and now the price of essential food products caused by the war in Ukraine, has told Kosova Preis, that this government has failed to bring foreign investors and now to increase the number of employment in Kosovo.

Kastrati: Government didn't bring a single foreign investor

“against the distribution of scholarships to students, I still don't see a national strategy, a national country for youth orientation, for connecting education to employment, for establishing professional schools. Then, we know it's only been a year, and we haven't waited for that now Kosovo will be filled with foreign investors, but at least we have waited for Kurti Government to at least bring in a large investor so far, bringing money to Kosovo and opening at least a thousand new jobs. Then, investments are linked not only to economic capacity but also to employment. This government has come with the promise that it will increase youth employment, but in this area we have not seen any significant progress and we are not yet seeing. Likewise, in the field of justice, the matter of self-tightening, and what is currently the immediate management of three crises, the pandemic crisis, energy, and now the rising price”, she points out.

While, economics professor Muhamet Sadiku has said of Kosovo Press, that despite Kosovo having a high degree of poverty, and unemployment, the country since post-war continues to fail to develop three key sectors such as health, education and energy.

Sadiku: Kosovo has failed in three key sectors, in health, in energy and education

Several initiatives have been established, but Kosovo continues to face widespread poverty, unemployment and what plagues citizens, continues to face inadequate social protection. The government has yet to show courage for reform in the social protection system. We still continue on the basis of some social schemes that originated from UNMIK. So it's time to think seriously... Kosovo has not managed 23 years after the war to solve problems in three key sectors, health, education, and energy. Therefore, the focus of citizens will be on how moves will be made in these three sectors so that Kosovo can move into more accepted stages and development)”, he says.

As for the achievements of this government within a year, Professor Albulen Kastrati points out that large corrupts have been prevented, consumer rights have been respected, and are supplied with expensive medicines to local hospitals.

Kastrati: This government has no corrupt relatives.

One of the major achievements of this government is that it has first changed the mind from a thought of dividing the chapters, in a mind of responsible public money management. There are no corrupt relatives, some people have even been arrested for corruption. Market Inspectorate has been activated, consumer rights are being respected, then in the field of education, it is more important that 1,000 scholarships for girls and other scholarships are being set up for student support. Several agricultural reliefs have been made, with subsidies. And what's very important, especially the QKUK that needs to be supplied with chronic disease drugs, those that have been missing for 20 years now, with the arrival of this government, hospitals are now supplied, is about drugs that cost 50-60 euros a box of”, she stressed.

The other university professor, Muhamet Sadiku, has appreciated this government's commitment to reform in justice.

Sadiku: He Appreciated His Determination for Reforms in Justice

“Since we are dealing with a period of 1 year and given that Kosovo continues to inherit a large host of social and political economic problems. And in view of the high expectations of opinion for changes, even rapids, however, developments in practice show economic development is being followed with great challenges. Hence, to emphasize what the challenges and achievements are, we need to look at the practical terrain. If we talk about achievements, I believe that this government has first promised major changes to economic legislation, development in the public sector, the appointment of professional boards and what matters, is that we are all awaiting depoliticisation of economic development. So, that's a sense of opinion. From the sectoral aspect, he appreciated this government's commitment to reform in the justice system”, he said.

Although Professor Sadiku expects the current government to eliminate monopolies in the Kosovo market, transform economic growth into economic growth, increase wages and pensions.

We remember that this government, despite pressure from unions and the opposition, has failed to adopt the Law for the minimum wage and the Law of Pays over a year.

On the other hand, most public companies operate in losses, besides KEK, until the government has named the majority of boards for these companies. Also, in the first year of government Kurti 2, Z. THE RRE has made decisions about expensive electricity as a result of the energy crisis.

Meanwhile, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has been highly praised for the 2021 economic growth of 9.9 per cent and the increase in budget revenues from Dogan and the Kosovo Tax Administration, foreign direct investments, which, according to him, have been raised for 55 per cent, and have created 24 thousand jobs.

Under Kurti 2, several schemes have been added for financial support, lechos, and children. The government Kurti 2 has voted in the Kosovo Assembly on 23 March 2021.
