The French-German friendship shows that reconciliation is possible even among former historical enemies and can also serve as a model for reconciliation in the Balkans. Thus it is said in a joint statement by the German Embassy and that of France in Kosovo, which on November 11th in Pristina, will organise the day of commemoration of the ceasefire between them, which ended World War I.
According to them, the current Franco-German friendship “also testifies to the suffering of all peoples facing the atrocities of war”.
In fact, November 11 is the day when the truce between France and Germany is commemorated each year, which ended World War I in 1918. Once on this date, all who fell for France and Germany in past and current conflicts are honoured.
And a military ceremony at the site of soldiers fallen in Pristina during the fighting at the Eastern Front will be held on November 11th at 11:00, in the space of the Christian cemetery in Arberi.
It is Germany and France that have recently presented a plan for normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia. Details of this plan have not yet been made public for the opinion, even though the parties in the dialogue are looking into it for months now.
