Former European Integration Minister Bekim Colak has commented on an old video where he is seen celebrating on the day when the European Commission recommended Kosovo.
Colak said he has no regrets for that party they held in the cabinet since the recommendation given by the EC was the critical moment for Kosovo.
“I have no regrets, because those statements are 100 percent correct. We have been awaiting positive recommendation for meeting the criteria that day, and the European Commission has given positive recommendation. But we have not enjoyed the final decision that day. For those who know this process is fully understandable, for those who know it is completely unintelligible why Kosovo is visa-free to this day”, he said in Klan Kosova.
Colak said that while celebrating were optimistic and no one believed the EU “would betray two million Kosovo citizens”.
“We have not celebrated before the time, but the critical moment is when the Commission's recommendation is given, because the EC is the one with states that want to benefit from this opportunity to move without visas, and is anxious to implement the criteria of a state that aspires to gain that right. We didn't celebrate prematurely, but the EU is too late, disappointed Kosovo citizens The EU is classically discriminating Kosovo citizens”, Colaku added.
He said the European Union, which 10 years ago discriminated against Kosovo citizens with non-liberalisation of visas.
Criticising the EU, Colak praised the country's institutions for the work they have done in these 10 years to deserve visa-free travel.
“Even though Kosovo did more than its duty, the EU sʹe kept its promise and S dealt with what Kosovo citizen deserved. These are 10 years of admiration for the hard and serious work of meeting these criteria from Kosovo institutions”.
The former minister says Kosovo has not been treated equally by the EU since its declaration of independence until the reason for non-liberalisation of visas sees Kosovo's non-recognition by the five EU states.
