The coalition of NGOs “Democracy in Action” through an open letter has been directed to political parties to appoint more women commissioners and leaders of the deployments.
The letter said that, along past election processes, the inclusion of women in the elections, with emphasis on election management bodies has been minimal.
“We appreciate the actions you've taken in the past to address this problem and remind you that in 2015 you have signed a declaration on increasing women's participation in these bodies, pledging to propose women to all positions of election management at at least 40%. However, this pledge has not been fulfilled in any of the election processes organised since 2015”, says DnV's letter.
According to DnV, in the last local elections of 2017, women made up only 10% of the KKZ composition, 29% of commissioners on Election Day, as well as only 14% of polling leaders.
The “as the official deadline for creating polling begins on September 15th, we are sure that you have already begun the process of recruiting members of the Local Councils. This period is an excellent opportunity for you, was the process of drafting commissioners' lists, in line with the principle of gender equality and in respect of the Declaration signed by you, to propose equal numbers of commissioners from both genders, or minimally at the level of 40%<18x1>, it is said further on paper.
DnV says that women have to take up a merit and equal position even under proposals for decision leadership, so you have to make serious efforts to achieve these objectives and provide examples that your subjects at the bottom are democratic, inclusive and provide equal opportunities for all.
