Property Protest in Albania's Kakomes also collapses a 22-year siege

Tens of Nivica and St Vasili residents, landowners in the Kakome area, immigrants returning from different cities in the country, as well as numerous citizens, have held a protest this Sunday at Kakoma Bay, opposing blocking access to the beach and their properties for more than two decades.
From published images, there are moments when protesters tore down surrounding containers and walls located at the entrance of the area, which they believe have hampered free movement towards the beach and private lands for 22 years.
Meanwhile, in the video distributed by activist Edison Leka, numerous citizens are seen cheering while removing the physical barriers that had isolated one of the best - known South coastal areas.
According to residents, the area siege has been held for years by the company “Riviria”, owned by businessman Luan Leka.
Protesters claim that this company has restricted access to the beach and to inherited property of residents, creating a situation they consider unacceptable and contrary to public interest.
During the protest, participants said they have long warned that concrete actions would be taken if the situation did not receive solutions.
They charge that for years their demands for the opening of passage routes and the return of free access to Kakome have not been heard by responsible institutions. /Periscope/
