US Professor Daniel Serwer says it is time Washington sent a clear signal to Vuciqi that NATO will protect all neighbouring states of Serbia from any non-partisan goal in Belgrade. Cerwer made these comments after Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq said that his state's policy is that Serbia's borders are invulnerable and that Serbia does not deal with the borders of others.
Days earlier, Serbia's Defence Minister Aleksandar Volin said at a party rally that the “task force of this generation of politicians is to create the Serbian world” and “united Serbs wherever they live”.
After this statement by Volin, who was criticised by the Balkan states, Vuciqi said that his state's policy is what he says Serbia's borders are incompatible and that Serbia does not deal with other borders.
Vuciqi's statement has been commented by American professor and Balkan Affairs connoisseur Daniel Serwer, saying it is time for NATO to clearly show Vuciqi that will protect all of Serbia's neighbours from Belgrade's unfriendly goals.
“Vuciqi is ready to give up the entire retake of Kosovo and all of Bosnia. All you want are Serbian ticks, about 15 percent, respectively. 49 percent. He would be happy for a Croatia bell, too. Eastern Slovenia? He wants all of Montenegro. It is time for Brussels to show him that the EU will no longer claim membership is the possibility for a state that fuels territorial ambitions and disrespects the borders of its neighbours. And it is time for Washington to clearly signal that NATO will protect all of Serbia's neighbours from Belgrade's unfriendly goals. It is time for the EU and NATO to become real with Serbia”, Serwer has said.
