US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin have started their meeting at a pytore residence in Geneva, Switzerland.
Once the meeting begins, Biden said it is “always better to meet face-to-face”, while Putin said he hoped that “tation would be productive”.
Talks are held at a time when reports between the two countries are at the lowest point since the Cold War period.
The June 16th meeting is held just months after the American president said he believed his Russian counterpart is a murderer.
Putin continues to empower his dominance over the country's political system by suppressing opposition activists, such as the case of Alexei Navajo, and by limiting media freedom.
Beden is the fourth US president to meet Putin.
An American president's spokeswoman has said that the White House does not target the relocation of reports with Russia, but neither does their escalation”.
Since his oath in the position of president in January, Biden has imposed two rounds of economic sanctions on Russia.
However, the US has agreed to extend the new START arms control treaty. Beden has also refused to block the completion of the Russian gas pipeline “North Stream 2”, which will increase Russian gas exports to Germany.
