About 60 health workers, out of them 18 doctors, have lost their lives during the struggle with the COVID-19 pandemic in Kosovo. They lost their battle with the disease while in charge, but their families did not accept any help from the State.
According to data from the Oda of Kosovo Doctors, three out of 18 families of doctors who have died from COVID-19, have minor children, or under the age of 18 and are in a more serious financial state.
“Two-three times I've been contacted by these families who, they said conditionally fell into the beggar's position, but to be interested in what's going on because their position is not greedy”, Sejdiu told RTV 21.
The Oda of Kosovo doctors has helped each of these families with about 1,000 euros.
“We have helped them with a financial amount, from 1,000 euros, but they need a constant care of”, Sejdiu said.
From the Federation of Kosovo Health Unions has also said such support should be provided to families of health workers who died in charge of office.
They should actually have such support, especially those children under 18 years. Health workers, or health lines, are over 60 who have lost their lives during the pandemic, we have made the request that the state implement through its mechanisms, or legally regulate”, the Kosovo Health Union Federation said.
The Oda of Kosovo Doctors has proposed that families of doctors who have lost their lives continue to have the basic wages doctors have had.
We've proposed that the doctor's basic salary, which is about 600 euros until it is regulated through pensions. It is about 6 thousand euros a month, and that is equal to the cabinet of a deputy minister,”, Sejdiu said.
Sejdiu said a working group had been formed who would address the case of the children of doctors who died in charge of office.
When the results of the new elections were announced, the commission has ascertained, despite our refusal that there is no legal basis”, he said.
