Senator Bernie Saunders' famous photograph in the Biden inauguration and his one-finger gloves influenced the collection of $1.8m for five days for charity organisations in his hometown, Vermont.
The sum was raised by the sale of goods with photographs taken on January 20th, where Sanders is seen alone, with mask and gloves, during the inauguration of the new American president, Joe Biden.
Sanders placed some goods with the famous picture on his website Thursday evening and the first group of goods was sold for less than 30 minutes, the senator himself announced. The goods were added over the weekend, but were sold out again Monday morning, the AP writes, broadcast Gazeta Express.
“Jane and I were amazed by all the creativity displayed by many people during the past week and we are pleased to use my online fame to help the vermontians in need”, Sanders said through a written statement.
But even this amount of money is not a substitute for action by Congress, and I will do everything I can in Washington to make sure that workers in Vermont and throughout the country get the help they need in the midst of the most severe crisis we've faced since the Great Depression” is further said in the statement.
