What happened last night in Congress? This is the story of the journalist present at a frightening moment.

I told my sister earlier: I don't know what, but something bad is gonna happen. ”
Outside Congress, I came upon President Donald Trump's loud supporters, all with flags waving and vows that they would never betray him. There was something that said the trouble was on the verge.

I entered the House of Representatives and climbed into the press gallery, where we had reserved seats. Epic Nancy Pelos was carrying the hammer, preventing people from making statements for more than five minutes.
While we were entering the second hour, we suddenly heard the glass break. The air was getting smoked. A report by the Capitol Police said, “An individual entered the” building. Everyone was looking around, but the work always went on. But then the announcements continued to come. And they were getting more and more urgent.
We were informed that people had entered the surrounding building, which is below the famous marble dome. The holy house of democracy was on fire.
Most of us are toast journalists. I've seen violence myself while covering murders in Baltimore but this time it was unexpected. The police didn't seem to know what was going on. They were uncoordinated. They closed the room doors, but at the same time, they told us that we had to evacuate. So there was a sense of panic in there.

I was scared. I'm telling you, I was scared. And I spoke to other journalists who told me they were ashamed of having their revenge.
There was a sense of that “nobody has control here”, that Capitol police lost control of the building, and that everything could happen”.
If you return to the attacks of September 11, 2001, there was a plane that crashed and didn't shoot his target. That target had been the Capitol building we were in. There was a echo of that. I only called my family to tell you that I was there and that the situation was dangerous.
There was a shot. We could see what was happening in our room. Five men were carrying guns. It was a scary sight. The men were looking through broken glass windows and seemed to be able to shoot every second.

Fortunately there were no shots in the room. But for a moment there, this seemed to be what was about to happen. Because things were slipping too fast.
We had to crawl under the railing to get off the street. I wasn't dressed to do that. Many women were dressed in heels, and so on because they had come for a formal ritual.
I took refuge in Congress coffee shop with others. I'm still shaking.

I've seen a lot of things as a journalist, but that was all different. This was the degraded public realm, attacked, and degraded. And that's why I think that the spruce wanted to come back and keep the hammer in hand and keep working.
Then I had to decide whether to return to my room as well. I decided maybe, because the message being sent was: “you can encourage the bandits, but we're going to continue”. I think this is a very important political message. /Periscope
