Lajqi: Children experience trauma when they see how police officers violently extend their parent

Periscop last night published the video in which four police officials are seen arresting one person because of not wearing a mask. And that sparked reactions from all the opinion in Kosovo.

The violent arrest in the presence of two children is described as scandal and even unacceptable for such a gesture to be made by law and law advocates.

Naser Lajqi, programme manager at child protection at the NGO Eye of Vision, in a statement to Periscope says such action by police officials should not be taken in front of children. According to Lajqi, this has caused trauma among children who have seen a scene of violence.

Despite the actions that a parent may have done in the presence of children, such actions were not necessary because it is emotional and psychological violence and a trauma that children experience when they have seen police practice violence on their parent. There have been forms and possibilities that if the parent should be arrested, use methods without seeing and understanding children, Lajqi said.

In addition, Lajqi adds that the unreasonable act of four Kosovo Police officials proves that police need professional training on how to act in cases of children present.

This shows that the police need professional training on how to bring in an interview and there are children, always have to maintain the child's highest interest, which is guaranteed by the law on child protection, Lajqi concludes.

Police spokesman Daut Hoxha confirmed that last night Periscop reported that the suspect has been detained because of not wearing the mask.
