The virus's global spread has overwhelmed health systems, ruined the global economy and led to major social divisions. The mortality rate of this virus is estimated to be 10 times higher than the average flu.
Already over 3 million people have been infected, and over 200,000 people have lost their lives worldwide.
This pandemic is much more than a health crisis, and the last three months, COVID-19 has shown us the damage that can be done even in the most advanced states in the world. The most affected countries, such as Italy, Spain, and the United States, are now heading to the second phase of pandemic, as the need to return to normality and reduce the percentage of infected people has led the governments of these countries to begin softening restrictive measures.
In a live link to Euronea Albania, Indri Seferi, public health specialist and professor at the University of Medicine, spoke about the transitional stages of COVID-19 and risk management that could result from a second wave of infection.
The Sefer stressed that the new phase of the gradual opening of society, with the reopening of the activity of several businesses, would increase the risk of infection, which has so far been mostly family contact, to expand into a broader circle. Given these conditions, he recommended that the gradual opening be accompanied by a social awareness of co-existence in the conditions of social distance and increased hygiene measures.
Attention should be taken by all linkes in society, with the government at the helm on health instructions, combining all links, both economic and social.
The point is that danger always exists. There are several factors, since public institutions management, to health authorities. What a quality it will be to cooperate with the population to strictly follow social distance and hygienic measures. Also, under gradual opening conditions, it will depend on how many businesses will have the opportunity to adapt to changes in order to have a gradual infection or minimize. This is what we're dealing with. There are many actors, only the work of the Health Ministry will not succeed without a civic co-operation”, he said.
Sefer said tests are certainly the best way to get clear information about the state of infection in the country, while added that tests with tampons are conditioned by certain factors, but they are serological tests that will enable the identification of astropmatic cases, which are also a major source of the spread of the virus.
