The EU's Special Envoy for Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue Miroslav Lajcak has said the EU should be the leader in this process, but that this will be done in co-operation with the US. Asked about Albin Kurt's statements that there is an agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, he has said he does not deal with speculation but that he lets others deal with it
I don't want to speculate, I never did that. I don't know there's such a deal. I work with facts. So I leave the speculations to others.”, said Lajcak in Rubik, follow Periscope.
The EU's Special Envoy for Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue Miroslav Lajcak has said the EU should be the leader in this process, but that this will be done in co-operation with the US.
There is only one dialogue, which is led by the European Union and adopted by the United Nations General Assembly. This dialogue has very specific objectives, promote co-operation, improve citizens' lives, and enable parties to make progress on the road to the European Union. And the outcome should be a comprehensive, legal binding agreement”.
We've always been successful when the European Union and the United States of America co-operated closely. The EU should be a leader because we are talking about European prospects. We're making contact with Ambassador Green, we're in contact with his team, we're in contact with the State Department. From my personal experience, I say that we, the EU and the United States, have to work together and I'm too dedicated to working closely with the United States of America”
Lajcak said he'll talk to Ambassador Richard Green soon and said he doesn't believe he'll have a fight with him.
It hasn't happened yet, but it will. I'm adapting to my new position, I'm contacting my partners, so we're working on this and (disclosure to Greene) it's going to happen”
I don't believe there's going to be such confrontations, because everybody agrees that here we're talking about promoting European perspective and nobody questions that. And for that very reason, the role of the European Union is clearly defined and American partners have always understood and supported this, so I don't think we can have any problem understanding each other and each other's role. Even President Trump has asked both sides to reach an agreement, as soon as possible”.
Lajcak in Rubik said he does not see this as a race between the EU and the US.
You read the letters he wrote a year and a half ago, saying the leaders of both countries are welcome to go to the White House and sign the agreement. This is not a race, this (dialog) is a very serious and very complex problem”.
Now, of course, our priority is to fight against Avid-19, this is an unprecedented situation and no one is immune. Every state, every government is busy trying to protect the lives and health of its citizens, so we can't talk about continuing the dialogue tomorrow or next week”.
But at the same time we are working hard to prepare to resume once circumstances allow. And we're not starting at zero. We have history, we already have agreements that are being implemented, so we will continue this process and we don't want to fight for time. Of course, we do not want to delay this process, but we want to complete it successfully. This is the most important thing to me”.
