The Green Transition and Digital Transformation will play a central role in re-building and modernising Western Balkan economies.
Investment in clean and digital technologies and capacities, along with the surrounding economy, will help create jobs and growth.
Support will also be provided for improving the competitiveness of Western Balkan economies, for their better connection within the region and the EU, and to help the Western Balkans be prepared for a digital era.
Also, there will be strong focus on transportation and energy ties, which are crucial to the economic development of the region and the EU.
Otherwise, EU and Western Balkan heads of state and government will meet on May 6th for a meeting of EU-Western Balkan leaders to address common challenges.
Originally envisioned as a summit in Zagreb, due to COVID-19's pandemic, the meeting will now be held through video conference.
Today's proposals are the Commission's contribution before this meeting.
