Brazilian officials gave no reason for refusing $22 million, but President Jair Bolsonaro accused France of treating Brazil as its colony.
Brazilian Defence Minister said fires in the Amazon are not out of control. Fernando Azevedo and Silva said 44,000 soldiers are on the ground fighting fire.
Commenting on the assistance of G7 countries, Bosonaro Chief of Staff Onix Lorenson said those revenues could be used in Europe. He stressed that Brazil can learn any place to protect forests.
Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States decided to provide an emergency assistance of $22 million to support the Amazon's fires.
French President Macron said the funds would be made available immediately primarily to pay more fireplanes, and that France would also be <x0froncing concrete military support in the region”.
This financing, they said, would be added to another financing <x0 middle fund for the Amazon reforestation plan.
