Serbia's Liberal Democratic Party Chairman Cedomir Jovanovic has talked about the Serb genocide in Srebrenica, reports he has with victims' families, the future of the region and other topics.
Jovanovic says that in this 24th anniversary of the memory of the victims of the Srebrenica massacre, there are mixed feelings, amid shame and anger and understanding and closeness with victims' families.
Mixed sensations every 11 July. There's everything, shame, anger, understanding and feeling close to the families of the victims. Humanity is obliged to sit on its head, and co-operate with those who have been in pain for more than two decades”, Jovanovic said in an interview for the empty combat media.
He has said it is important that Serbian politics be ready to admit mistakes.
Asked where you see the Balkans today in front of Srebrenica, Jovanovic says he is not very sure that people are thoroughly informed about what happened in the former Yugoslavia.
“Already is a whole new generation, as time passes. There are many propaganda, distorted evidence on all sides, praise to the marginalisation criminals of victims”, Jovanovic said.
According to him, the horrors that have passed and witnessed witnesses and survivors of Srebrenica massacres are the strongest evidence and argument such things dare not repeat in the future.
This is why I talk about peace so often, because I see that political elites in the region do not pay enough attention to conversations with people. Peace is very necessary, and there is absolutely no alternative”, Jovanovic points out, the Express broadcast.
In this interview he also spoke of his encounter with the terrified mother in Srebrenica, Hattija Mehmedovic, saying that she will never forget her sight and words.
“HATTA was willing to seek truth and justice at every step. I will never forget her images, her words and most importantly her concern. Her anger is the grief of all of us, and we must not allow another time our sisters and mothers to become the war hero for justice, Jovanovic added.
In the Srebrenica massacre, more than 8,000 innocent civilians, mostly young men and boys, were killed. All massacres and murders were carried out by paramilitary forces led by notorious General Ratko Mladic, who has been sentenced by The Hague Tribunal to life imprisonment.
