Surviving sexual violence during the war in Kosovo, Vasfije Krasniqi Goodman, has accepted the Kim Boc-Dong Award in Seoul, South Korea.
Vasfija, who is also an activist of the Kosovar Centre for the rehabilitation of Torture Survivors - QKRMT, has been chosen as the winner of this award for 2019, the Klan Kosova reports.
The Korean Council for Justice and the Memorial for Military Sexual Slave Affairs from Japan has given the award.
This award honours individuals or organisations who have been engaged in the move to resolve the issue of sexual violence during the war and to ensure the human rights of women in armed conflicts around the world.
Vasfia was the first person to publicly share her history and the trauma of sexual violence she had experienced during the war in Kosovo. Then it became a powerful sound of the campaign, "Be My Voice," in support of the survivors of sexual violence during the war, and its relentless efforts in combating the stigmatisation surrounding this social category.
