The defence ministry said in a statement on June 20th that two Russian attackers, TTU-95, approached the Japanese islands.
The ministry said one of the bombers violated Japanese airspace twice over the Daito Islands near Okinawa and near the island of Hachijo, south of the capital, Tokyo.
Two planes then flew along northeastern Japan and the island of Hokkaido before returning to Russia, the ministry said.
The Russian Army has not immediately commented on these statements. A recent Japanese ministry report said that more than 340 such incidents have occurred during the period, including Russian planes and 638 incidents involving Chinese aircraft.
