With minimal transparency and lack of a real debate, Kosovo is done with two highways and with two others on the way. With less than 10,000 square miles [11,000 sq km] of land, the state among the smallest in Europe will soon be located among four highways, writes today “Koha Ditore”.
While the route to Durres, which already carries the national route, has been in use for several years, what leads to Han of Elez has just been completed. The highway to Gjilan and Dukagjin highways are expected to begin to complete the highway infrastructure.
In an interview for “Kahen Ditore”, Alban Hashan, executive director at the “invest <x2-8x3> institute, has said Kosovo politics has oriented capital spending mainly on infrastructure projects, ignoring other sectors. According to Hashan, the impression has been given that the Government has discussed the highway issue in close circles, failing to convince citizens that the benefits exceed the cost of these investments.
The current highways, except for Albania, do not connect to international corridors, as neighbouring states, towards which these roads are reaching, have not accomplished their share.
