We wanted to have protection in the Middle East. We're sending a relatively small number of troops, mainly for defence”, said Mr. Trump while leaving the White House for a trip to Japan.
Some very talented people are currently going to the Middle East. We will see what will happen”, he said.
The troops would help strengthen American defence in the region, two anonymous sources told Reuters news agency earlier. They also said there will be engineers among the troops. Earlier this month, the US Army deployed a militant group in the Middle East, including bombers and Patriot missiles. This move came in response to what Washington said was disturbing evidence of a possible attack by Iran.
Last week the rhetoric between Tehran and Washington has escalated as the United States exacerbated sanctions with the aim of pushing Iran to make concessions beyond the terms of the 2015 nuclear agreement.
President Trump warned on Monday that Iran would face <x0 strong force” if it would attack American interests in the Middle East.
