Family violence increases 300 more cases in 2018 than in 2017

The signing of this memorandum carries particular significance, as it will enable monitoring and prosecuting cases of domestic violence in Kosovo, but will, above all, affect increasing accountability for cases of violence.
Justice Minister Abelard Tahiri said that the date-base of domestic violence has no classic goal of collecting data to calculate them, but also the cause-passing analysis and analysis of cases of domestic violence, for building a more effective perspective that responds to real problems.
While, Labour and Social Management Minister Skender Recica said that the document signed today for the database for victims of domestic violence facilitates the work and inter-institute co-ordination that, based on accurate data for victims of violence, will advance social services to protect this category.
Annette Feth-Lihic, political adviser to the EU Special Representative / Executive Co-ordinator from the European Union Office in Kosovo, said the integrated database may be a useful tool in fighting domestic violence, as domestic violence requires efforts by all society.
All must report violence and understand the importance of reporting cases of domestic violence”, she said.
The database will be guided and monitored by the National Coordinator for protection from domestic violence. Its creation was supported by the UN Women's Office in Kosovo, under the regional project “Change of Mind, application of norms: Elimination of violence against women EVAW“, financed by the EU.
Otherwise, 300 more cases of domestic violence were reported in Kosovo last year than in 2017.
