A living member of the bird species that had not been seen for 113 years and for whom everyone feared that it had disappeared was found in a remote part of the island of Galapagos of Fernandina, translated by The Guardian, Periscopi.
An elderly female, Chelonoidis phantastcus, also known as the giant turtle Fernandina, was found on Sunday by an expedition to Galapagos National Park.
Researchers believe that there may be other members of the island's species because of their tracks and found them. The team took the turtle, possibly more than 100 years old, to a feeding center for giant turtles on Santa Cruz Island.
The only other member of this species was found in 1906 - the two world wars. /Periscopi
