According to foreign media, Telegrafi records, at least six people were admitted to hospital with injuries and barricades were well placed after officers attacked the ranks of many young demonstrators and masked faces who had gathered gatherings outside the Spanish police headquarters.
The city's violent heart attitude offered evidence that deep differences exist between strict and conciliatory elements within the region's independence movement
The protest reportedly lasted several hours before protesters scattered across the streets of the city.
However, Saturday's protest was not the first violent, rioting protest, especially on October 18, which was most widespread.
But it was in sharp contrast to the early events of the day, when about 350,000 Catalans had marched peacefully through the city, in support of calls for the release of imprisoned leaders, from civil rights groups.
