Ski resorts have been shut down and villages have been isolated after snow blocked roadblocks and transport lines, as well as damaged power lines.
A military helicopter saved 66 teenagers in Austria who were sufficed in several mountain homes for several days. In Switzerland, workers spent several hours removing snow from the Hotel Sanentisin Schwaegalp on Friday after an avalanche of 300m latitude crashed into restaurant windows. Three people were injured in the incident.
Two skiers were killed by an avalanche in Bulgaria's Pirin Mountains on Friday, and a 48-year-old driver who was cleaning snow died after falling into a river south of Munich in Germany.
The heavy snowstorm is expected to continue from Saturday evening to Monday morning, and warnings of avalanches have been issued for several regions, including Tirolin in western Austria.
At least 21 people have died because of the cold weather in Europe since the New Year's beginning.
