Russia said it allowed the United States consular access to American citizen Paul Whelan, who was arrested in Moscow on Friday, under suspicion of spying.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said consular officials were allowed to see Whelan on Wednesday afternoon.
The U.S. State Department hasn't come up with comments yet.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said he wants to know more about the charges Whelan faces.
If his detention is not appropriate, we will demand his immediate return”, Pompeii said.
Russia says Whelan is “caping by spying on Moscow”, but his family says he was in Russia to attend a wedding.
Whelan could face 10 to 20 years in prison if he is tried in Russia and found guilty of spying. /Periscopi
