President Hashim Thaci has declared that Kosovo must close the conflict chapter with Serbia in a permanent and sustainable formula.
He's in an interview for SEEB says that EU and NATO membership, which is a wish of 92% of Kosovo's population, is meaningless until open bilateral issues are resolved.
Kosovo with Serbia has many issues -- from the legacy of war, such as missing people and war reparations -- to more contemporary issues. Some of these issues were being addressed in dialogue in Brussels, but the time has come for the final and legal solution. I am against ethnic borders. But I'm not even naive. I know Serbia prefers to draw its feet in Kosovo's inevitable recognition. They would like to preserve the status quo, but this spending is not possible to save anymore, he said.
Furthermore, the head of our country said that the 400km-long border between Kosovo and Serbia should be defined.
Asked whether the new border correction agreement would replace specific agreements between Pristina and Belgrade in the dialogue in Brussels, especially with regard to forming association of Serb majority municipalities, Thaci said the blame for delays in that direction comes mainly from Serbia.
The head of the country has also spoken of visa liberalisation, saying Kosovo has met all conditions, but now expect the European Parliament and member states to recognise Kosovo's great progress and dedication.
