Focusing on the referendum debate in Macedonia, respectively, the importance of being the positive result through which prospects for the country's integration into NATO and the EU are being seen, and the idea for changing borders between Kosovo and Serbia has been found.

National Coordinator for NATO under the Government of Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, commenting on the idea of changing borders between Kosovo and Serbia, estimates that the outcome of the referendum in September should certainly be successful, on the contrary, Macedonia as a state will be the first to be suffered by the so-called regional “stuth”.

Pavle Trajanov, former Minister of Internal Affairs for Radio Free Europe, says that the change of borders is closed and that in no way can be realised, because even the countries of the region, but the major forces know that realising this idea will have predictable consequences.

Trajanov underlines that for this very reason the outcome of the referendum should not be connected in the fall with what the idea for changing borders could bring, respectively, to exchange territories.

“Citizens should not be intimidated through possible wars or conflicts that could erupt in the region, with Macedonia's NATO membership strengthened the country's domestic security plan I would say the country would be more stable”.

“However, we as a state should maintain the firm position that we should not make this change of borders in the Balkan countries and wider because it results in conflict“, Trajanov says.

But, Temelko Ristevski connoisseur of political issues, says the referendum results are very important because Macedonia's NATO integration will make the country immune to any development that could eventually be followed by turbulence in the countries of the region.

“Change of borders will bring instability, reinforce separatist circles' aspirations with cʹrast would also be jeopardised by Macedonia. I hope this won't happen and this will only end up as an id”.

NATO membership will be unable to realise any idea that threatens the stability of the country, but also the region in general”, says Temelko Ristevski.

Otherwise, all political parties in Macedonia, both those in the Macedonian political bloc and those in the Albanian political bloc, have expressed opposition to the idea of changing borders in any form, underlining that the realisation of such an idea will have this cedomino effect.

On the other hand, Macedonia's President Djordje Ivanov on Friday has stressed that the eventual change of borders will produce negative reactions to the chain.

The “in the Balkans is again talked about changing borders, exchanging territories as if the lecture that any such idea creates negative reactions to the chain, Ivanov said./ REL/
