Former American diplomat: If Kosovo does not secure seat at the UN, there is no Kosovo- Serbia

Former US diplomat and development connoisseur in the Balkans James Hooper has said that if Kosovo does not participate in the United Nations Organisation, then there is little possibility that the final agreement between Kosovo and Serbia will be reached. “What I would put first, before Bosnia and Macedonia, is that if Kosovo, like [...]
“What I would put first, before Bosnia and Macedonia, is that if Kosovo, as a result of the agreement, is to be admitted to the United Nations. In such a case, I think there are compelling arguments for a deal. If Kosovo is not going to be part of the UN, then I think there is little possibility that any agreement will be reached”, Hoober has said in an interview for Radio Free Europe, Periscopi broadcasts.
Hooper says Thaci and Vucin have realised that the Balkans cannot be calm, so they are also making moves.
“They see that the Balkans will not be calm, now it is a dynamic situation. They have realized that they cannot hope for the situation to be so. I mean, you can't save the status quo by doing nothing. This is a dynamic situation, and the only way to achieve stability in the region is to move forward. This is accomplished by working on relations between Kosovo and Serbia, and by analyzing whether a process can be created that would send things away”, he has said.
The US former diplomat says that Kosovo relations -- Serbia -- in Kosovo -- are viewed independently.
There is a tendency in Kosovo that all of this will be viewed locally [provincial], will be analysed what will be done with the Association of Serb majority municipalities, which part of their historic territory, of holy land will be lost and how this will affect. Each side intends to fulfill maximum ambitions without giving anything. This is the recipe for instability and return of violence in the future in the region. Relations between Kosovo and Serbia are the most important in the region. I don't know what the outcome will be at the end and I don't think even Mr. Thaci or Mr. Vuciq are aware of the outcome, they may be testing how committed the United States and Europe are. But I think it's important that this is not viewed in a provincial way, if I'm allowed to say”, he said. /Periscopi/
