According to data from the Ministry of Labour and Social Management, 13 newborn children have been abandoned in the first six months of this year. During 2017, however, 34 children remain without parents. The main cause of this phenomenon is said to be the burdened socioeconomic situation.
Mimoza Kqiku, adviser to the Ministry of Labour and Social Management, said that based on statistical data from the early years, in the first quarter of this year we have a decline in the number of abandoned children.
In terms of ministries, labour ministers and the social welfare, we refer to annual reports that we accept from Kosovo municipalities. According to reports by municipal social work centres for the period January-June 2018, thirteen abandoned children have been counted.
The social worker in the Gynecology Department at QKUK, Mevlude Veselin-Bajra, told public television that in the first six months they had only three cases of abandoning children at this clinic. According to her, the burdened socioeconomic situation is one of the main causes that affect children's abandonment.
The reason is, they have no support and no place to take their children. Former boyfriend or fiancé does not take responsibility, no income, no housing, no housing, they owe off to children. If there had been one in a thousand cases, these mothers would not have abandoned their children.
