Skenderbej Square in Tirana receives prestigious European award

“Square Skenderbej” was selected among 279 projects from 32 different European countries, while previously chosen among 25 finalist projects. Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj, as well as representatives of the 51N4E projector studio, went ahead.
The European Prize for Urban Public Space is a two-year competition organised by the Barcelona Contemporary Culture Centre (ÇCB) and six European institutions in order to recognise and encourage recovery projects and protect public space in our cities.
The award, established in 2000, celebrates its tenth edition this year. The International Court of the European Space Award selected 25 projects as finalists among 279 projects from 32 European countries. The European Prize for Urban Public Space is organised by the Barcelona Centre for Contemporary Culture (ÇCB) and partners: German Architectural Museum (Frankfurt); Finnish Architectural Museum (Helsinki); Museum of Architectural and Disaine (Lubana); Architectural Foundation (London); The city of architecture and Heritage (Paris) and the Vienna Centre of architecture (Veana).
A total of 279 works were delivered for this session: Spain (52), Portugal (18), Italy (17), France (16), Belgium (14), the Netherlands (14); UK (13), Germany (12), Poland (10), Switzerland (10), Romania (9), Bulgaria (8), Czech Republic (8), Slovenia (8), Serbia (7), Ukraine (7), Austria (6), Russia (6)), Denmark (5), Hungary (5), Turkey (5)), Albania (4), Sweden (4), Croatia (3), Estonia (3), Ireland (3), Norway (3), Bosnia and Herzegovina (2), Greece (2), Lithuania ( 2), Luxembourg (2), Slovakia (1).
