Kosovo will not be able to join the EU and NATO without achieving normalisation with Serbia. So declared yesterday American Ambassador to Pristina Greg Delaway on the occasion of the US Independence Day celebration.
According to him, Kosovo must overcome differences with Serbia and negotiate the final agreement in the dialogue.
Kosovo pays the price every day every month for the profoundly disappointing fact that your sovereignty and independence are still not accepted by all. This award is economic, commercial, political and social. I am as pleased as you are by this sad reality, but the fact is that you're paying this” price, Delawi stated, adding that Kosovo pays this price whenever foreign companies bypass investment in a country whose legitimacy is questioned.
You carry the burden of what international businesses call political danger. The long - term price of this obstacle is truly incalculable. This is the heavy burden of the container that Kosovo still carries. For me this means that you have no choice but to resolve your final relationship with Serbia, and the sooner you do so, the better”, Delawie stressed.
According to him, Kosovo has another hill to climb. “Fighting corruption and improving public opinion confidence. Public officials in a democracy have the obligation to render an account to their people, who pay their salaries and put the state first, above personal or political interests”.
One culture, according to Delawi, which places the country's interests on personal gain, and the systematic and ongoing fight against corruption are essential to everything Kosovo hopes to meet. “Face challenges before you and Kosovo can achieve the goals of building a varied and dynamic economy to develop productive and peaceful relations with its neighbours and, as stated in its Constitution, to build Kosovo's future as a free, democratic, peaceful country that will be the homeland of all its citizens”.
