Through a communiqué sent to the media, the north-Atlantic alliance has voiced the position that this move will reduce the possibility of the regime's further chemical attacks on Syrians.
NATO has consistently condemned the use of chemical weapons as a clear violation of international agreements and regulations.
“NATO considers the use of chemical weapons a threat to global peace and security, and believes it is vital to protect the chemical weapons convention. It calls for a joint and effective response to the international community”, it says in the statement.
