German debate and debate of the entire European Union

First of all, the facts. Welcomed to Paris and Brussels as a promise of a revival of European unity, the government agreement agreed on February 8th between Angela Merkel and the Social Democratic Party (SPD) has created all of the confusion and anger in Berlin.

Anger is particularly serpentized among the conservatives of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). <x1). “Merkel offers the government to SPD”, the paper adds.

It is the opinion of many of the large names of the CDU, which do not bet on the life expectancy of the Chancellor, and publicly state that the outcome of negotiations with the Social Democrats is disappointing because it poses the risk that the European “policy of the SPD is imposed on the Finance Ministry”, a dictatorship that will go to the Social Democrats, supporters of a policy of investment on the part of the European Union, and especially in the Eurozone.

The SPD base is not convinced

Anger is no surprise, because during negotiations on the government agreement, most concessions came from Merkel and because the left managed to affirm its will,  to make budget surplus boost a recovery policy in both Germany and the rest of the European Union.

If the agreement is implemented, Germany will change direction, bringing changes to the EU as well. However, it is not certain that the SPD base, comprised of 40,000 militants, will provide green light, through interiors concerning the re-creating of a major coalition.

The base is not convinced, because the SPD has lost its identity and many electors, due to the last two major coalitions with the right, and the transition to the opposition remains a strong temptation for militants, who want a return to origin.

The situation is not yet clear. The EU's recovery is held in limbo by the social democracy crisis, deep in Germany and a little everywhere, as well as the division of the CDU between the two currents, the liberal and the European and socialist.

The right-wing progress should push the left to vote for and ratify what is practically a victory. But it takes caution, because left and right are divided between identity positions, which are rooted in history and temptation <x0fencez”, the creation of a large centre that encompasses all, and anchored in European ambition.
